Taste the best wines of the Algarve region excursion
A demarcated region since 1980 that produces red, white, rosé and liqueur wines, the Algarve is Portugal’s southernmost wine producing region. Protected by its surrounding mountains, the region enjoys the perfect climate – with over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year – and landscape for the production of excellent and unique wines. Young winemakers and viticulturists have recently flocked to the Algarve and have invested in the region’s winemaking industry, bringing with them their valuable know.
The Algarve wine region is classified as a Vinho Regional (VR), consisting of four DOCs which are Lagos, Portimao, Lagoa, and Tavira producing Red Varieties such as Castelao, Syrah, Tinta Negra Mole, Crato Branco, Petit Verdot, Baga and Cinsault, and White Varieties including Arinto, Siria, Alicant-Branco, Moscatel Graudo and Verdelho.
